Hearths

A fireplace hearth is the floor area within a fireplace. It is made from noncombustible materials, such as granite, slate, and other stones. The hearth extension is the noncombustible material in front of and at the sides of a fireplace opening. Hearth Regulations for a Free Standing Stove state that it must be at least 12mm in thickness and it must extend beyond the burner by 300mm to the front and 150mm on each side. it must be made from non-combustible materials and the total area covered must be at least 840mm x 840mm. These regulations change regularly so please check with us when we visit for a survey.

Although about ninety percent of people choose black gratin or slate Hearths, we can supply them made to measure in any size, shape and in a variety of coloured stones, marble, sanstone and Portuguese limestone.

Our Hearths are manufactured 'In-House' with traditional bed saws and stone working machinery along with polishers. We can therefore manufacture to any thickness and design.

We have extensive expertise in the calculations for expansion and the thermal shock associated with a cold Hearth quickly gathering temperature when in close proximity to a stove or open fire. We also have proven experience with sealing materials.


We provide a Hearth fitting and maintenance service and offer all appropriate advice for the long term care of the Hearth.
